LG GM750 Review

Posted on 31st March 2010 by regulars in LG, Mobile Phone Reviews, Mobile Phones

The LG GM750 runs with Windows Mobile, has multiple home windows with a dedicated screen for your contacts, media content and applications, and loads of space.  There’s a constant status bar at the top of the screen that displays a whole host of icons, some of which are a bit difficult to identify.

Microsoft Office Mobile is a great bonus to business users who want to read and edit Word and Excel documents on the go, but that is the limit for this phone.  To create a new document would take forever on the GM750, as accurate typing is a slow process on the handset.  You have to use the stylus, which is annoying, as it is not integral and you have to remember to always have it attached to your phone.

The phone comes with Windows Live Messenger so you can always keep up to date with the gossip, and you can merge your phone and your messaging contacts, which is extremely handy.  The multitasking function is also useful as you switch between applications.

The sound quality is passable and there is the standard 3.5mm headphone jack so you can use your own headphones or the earphones that come with the phone, which are surprisingly ok.

Although the GM750 has lots of functionality it does tend to be a bit slow.  Connection to the web via Wi-Fi is frustratingly slow even when close to a wireless router, and when browsing the web the small screen makes everything look a bit squashed.

A quick search online can produce hundreds of deals for almost any type of phone you may be interested in, from the latest mobile phones packed with extra functions and top of the range specifications to the cheap mobile phones for the more budget conscious user.

For some really good deals on the HTC HD2 handset you first need to know what your budget is. To get a free handset deal may mean spending a little extra per month on line rental or taking out a longer contract.

For the heavy user T-Mobile is currently offering a HTC HD2 deal where you pay £34.99 for the handset and £35.00 per month line rental, for that you get 1200 free minutes to any network at any time plus unlimited text messages. The contract length for this offer is 24 months.

If you are looking to spend slightly less each month then Orange are offering this handset for £89.99 and only £25.00 per month line rental. Included in this offer is 600 free minutes of talk time to any network at any time and unlimited text messages. This is also a 24 month contract.

Recycling your old mobile phone for money

Posted on 25th March 2010 by regulars in Mobile Phone Recycling, Mobile Phones

In today’s tough economic times, it is important for everyone to look for that extra bit of cash to pay for the bills and taxes. And if you are a mobile phone user and you do not know that your old mobile phone can be recycled, then you are definitely passing up a very easy chance to make some good cash for mobile phones.

It is a fact that recently there has been an increase in the number of companies that are entering the mobile phone recycling business. Companies like Envirofone, Earth Mobile and Mazuma will take your old, unused mobile phone units whether they are working or not.

Selling your mobile phone is a relatively easy process. When you decide that it’s time to purchase a new mobile phone, you can sell your old unit by looking up one of the phone recycling companies online and typing in your old mobile phone’s name and manufacturer. The recycling company will give you an offer which you can then accept or reject. If you accept it, the company will send you a padded envelope which you will use to put your phone in and send back to the company. After that, the company will perform a series of tests to confirm whether you deserve the offer for your phone or you should be paid less. In any case, payment will be sent to you in a few days.

More and more mobile phone users, particularly in the UK where most of these phone recycling companies are located, are realizing how important it is to have their old mobile phones recycled and how much they would lose if they simply threw those phones away.

Motorola Milestone Overview

Posted on 16th March 2010 by regulars in Mobile Phone Reviews, Motorola

A Motorola Milestone review reveals that this phone was released as Motorola’s new mobile phone, amid a hail of publicity and claims that it was Motorola’s come-back phone. It does have a large 3.7 inch screen that gives you an impressively high quality image, and the multi-touch facility that was left out of earlier versions.

The Android 2.0 system works really well here and allows you to customise the on-screen presentation to suit, viewing apps as, when and if you want. Perhaps they could have a few more applications on offer in their store as they are not quite up to the level iPhone users expect.

The Milestone’s design when compared to other mobile phones lets it down a bit because it is a little boxy and hard edged. Perhaps Motorola’s design is a little too clinical but touches like the brushed copper controls do add something to the look.

Milestone’s camera is nothing spectacular with only 5-megapixels and a poor quality lens, but editing and watching videos on the big screen is great and their system allows you to quickly edit and put them online for people to enjoy. There is also a slide out QWERTY keyboard, which is a little small and difficult to use. The direction pad on the side could have been done away with and the extra room created would have provided a more useable workspace.

Motorola have all in all released a decent quality phone in the Milestone. The screen would have to be the main advantage as it makes web browsing so much easier.

HTC Tattoo Deals

Posted on 15th March 2010 by regulars in HTC, Mobile Phone Reviews, Mobile Phones

One of the best deals around on the HTC Tattoo is currently with T-Mobile.  The handset is available free of charge and comes with 300 call minutes, 300 text messages, three months of free handset insurance and £30 worth of mobile phone accessories.  This is a 24 month contract; it costs £20 per month and has unlimited web access.

The same company offers a good deal for those who do not require so many minutes and messages.  The HTC Tattoo handset can be provided for a charge of £24.99.  The line rental is £15 each month and the user will receive 100 call minutes, 100 text messages, unlimited web access and three months free insurance.

For those who do not require web access, Vodafone have a £10 per month plan.  This mobile phone deal includes 75 call minutes, 250 text messages and three months free insurance.  However, the handset must be paid for at a cost of £227.99 and the user is tied to a 24 month contract.

Vodafone do offer the phone much more cheaply.  For a handset charge of £104.99 and a line rental of £15 per month, the user is on a 24 month contract and receives 75 call minutes, 250 text messages and three months free insurance.  Again there is no internet usage included.

If looking for cheap mobile phones then longer term contracts with fewer extras are usually the best option as it brings the cost of the handset down and in some cases it can be free.  There are several deals available for the HTC Tattoo and checking the latest prices on the internet is a good way to help you to make the decision.

Cash for Mobiles

Posted on 12th March 2010 by regulars in Mobile Phone Recycling, Mobile Phones

Most people do not realise that their old mobile phone may be worth money.  More than three quarters of the parts in a handset can be recycled and many old phones that are in reasonable working order can be refurbished and put to good use.

There are many ways in which a mobile phone can be recycled or reused but reports state that as little as three percent of people actually bother to recycle them.  An even more disturbing statistic is that three quarters of consumers are not even aware of how to go about recycling their phone.

When an old handset ends its life in a landfill site it has the potential to be very harmful to the environment.  Phones contain chemicals, such as cadmium, which can leach into the soil.

An alternative method of disposal, selling the phone, benefits both the environment and the user. Most people choose a specialist mobile phone recycling company that will give you cash for mobile phones also ensure that the handset goes to a good home, or that the components are properly recycled.

The amount of cash that the seller can realise will vary depending on the make, model and condition of the handset, and of course the company you choose to sell it to.  It is advisable not to just send it to the first company you find, but to obtain quotes from several.  The price one organisation is prepared to pay does not necessarily reflect the potential payout from all of them.

New companies are entering the phone recycling market all the time, which is good news for consumers as it provides them with a wider range of options.

Samsung G600 Overview

Posted on 10th March 2010 by regulars in Mobile Phone Reviews, Samsung Mobile Phones

Although the G600 is one of Samsung’s older phones – two years old now – it’s still one of the company’s better designs.  It remains a classic, slim line handset with Samsung’s slider format.  The G600 is not the slimmest of phones but at 15 mm makes it a perfect handset to hold and use.

The camera is 5 mega pixels with auto focus, 4x digital zoom and LED, still a superior camera in the lower price mobile range.  You can take photographs of landscapes using the panoramic mode and the macro mode for close up shots.  The phone has a built-in picture editor and supports direct printing to a Pictbridge-compatible printer.

The video recording is of equally high quality with 640 x 480 pixels.  Photographs and video can be viewed (a top of the line Samsung design here) on a 2.2-inch screen with 16 million colours and 240 x 320 pixels.

The music system of the G600 is great, supporting all major formats (MP3, Aac, AAc+, 3-AAc and WMA).  You can use it with Bluetooth wireless headsets and it even has the option for you and a friend to plug in and listen to your music together.  The phone has a built in memory of 40 megabytes that can be increased with an included 1 GB memory card, more than enough to store several hundred tracks.

The battery life is average, and it should last you a few days as long as you don’t overuse the multimedia options and Bluetooth.

Toshiba TG01 Review

Posted on 9th March 2010 by regulars in Mobile Phone Reviews, Mobile Phones, Toshiba Mobile Phones

A Toshiba TG01 review uncovers a phone with one of the largest screens around at an impressive 4.1 inches. The design by Toshiba, a company renowned for making television sets looks remarkably like an FST screen and wouldn’t look out of place on your lounge wall. They have made the system capable of running multiple functions at once and had the foresight to include an energy conserver.

With its high-resolution screen the TG01 is massive in comparison to the iPhone and comes into its own when you use the web browser or have it functioning as a sat nav, where the display is a definite bonus. Websites are displayed full screen and the touch control makes navigating around the screen easy.

Criticism will undoubtedly come from those who despair of the Windows Mobile 6.1 system and there will be cries of derision and “why didn’t you install an Android?” They have added a “blinds” system that works on top of Windows in an attempt to make it more versatile, but opinions on this vary too.

The phone comes with a standard 3.2-megapixel camera but no flash, video facility and an audio player. Connectivity is fine with GPS, WiFi, a mini USB but there is no 3.5mm jack. This is a common complaint with many phones.

The Toshiba TG01 has the potential to be an excellent phone and its screen alone makes it worthy of consideration. Once they sort out the interface problems the 1.0 GHz processor will come into its own.
