About the HTC Desire S

Reading an HTC Desire S review is a good way to find out how this upgrade compares to the original HTC Desire.  The original phone was, at one time, the best-selling Android-compatible model, and the new version of the Desire seems to promise similar popularity.  Users have cited the sleek, lightweight design, the photo capabilities and the updated operating system as good reasons to invest in this phone.

A Sleeker Design

One of the things that many users appreciate about the HTC Desire S is how compact the design is.  The casing is made of sturdy aluminium, with a sleek black colour giving it a high-tech look.  The current version is a few millimetres shorter than the previous one, enhancing its compact look.  The buttons have been designed to blend in with the casing better.  The screen measures 3.7 inches, allowing for a nice display.

Top Quality Features

The HTC Desire S has features that make it a useful, multi-function device.  The Android OS is installed on the phone, running the Gingerbread 2.3 version.  This makes it easier to access your favourite applications and programs.  A 1GHZ processor, 786 MB of RAM and 1.1 GB of built-in memory allow for faster performance.  The built-in camera has a resolution of 5-megapixels, and support for a number of media file formats is provided.  You can easily use Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or a USB connection to access the internet.

Samsung Omnia 7 Smartphone Review

The Omnia 7 is not a revolution in mobile phone technology.  However, it is a solid phone, depending on what exactly the buyer is looking for.

Samsung Omnia 7
reviews note its similarity to other phones.  It closely resembles the Galaxy S.  It has the same button layout, the same 5 megapixel camera, and the same battery, even the same screen.  Reviews also note two important differences, however: firstly, it lacks microSD expansion, limiting its storage to 8GB for life.  Secondly, it is metal wrapped, rather than plastic backed like the Galaxy S.  This gives a sleeker, more expensive feel to it.

Reviewers lauded the feel of the Omnia 7, as well as the design.  It fits nicely in the palm and can be used left or right handed with equal ease.  There is one unappealing aspect of the physical design though.  The power button is located on the top right side where it could all too easily get pushed accidentally.

Aside from the issues already mentioned, there is not much to complain about and plenty to like.  The phone is solid.  It can play decent quality sound without much distortion.  It also comes with a useful news and weather application, called Now, that is unique to Samsung.  The photo sharing app is also solid.  It lets users upload pictures taken with the phone and share them online.  Taking those pictures should be no problem with the phone’s built-in camera function.

Deals on LG Optimus 2X Phones

Posted on 5th June 2011 by regulars in Google Android,LG,Mobile Phone Reviews,Mobile Phones

There are many ways to find good deals on smartphones such as the LG Optimus 2X.  Getting LG Optimus 2x deals can be crucial for people hoping to buy this type of smartphone at an affordable cost.  These discount deals may be available through data plans and tariffs or found on the phone itself.

One way that a person can obtain a discounted LG Optimus 2X phone is to look for a refurbished model.  Refurbished electronics are those that have been previously used and then restored to good-quality condition.  In terms of smartphones, many choose to go this route in order to get the model they want without having to pay full price.  A refurbished LG Optimus 2X is similar in function to a brand new phone, but at a fraction of the cost.

Those interested in a deal on an LG Optimus 2X can also purchase a package that includes both the phone and a service plan or tariff.  One such plan offers a free phone if users subscribe to a 24-month plan that costs £30 per month.  This includes 500 minutes of talk, unlimited texts, and 500 MB of data for Internet browsing.  Another free phone deal is for a plan that costs £22.50 per month for 24 months and includes 750 talk minutes, 1500 texts, and a full gigabyte of data.

Other plans require users to pay for the smartphone at a reduced price.  For example, consumers can get a £24.99 phone and a plan costing £25.54 per month for 24 months and including 600 minutes, 500 texts, and unlimited data.

Google Nexus S by Samsung

After the Google Nexus One, Google, along with everyone else, believed the Nexus project was over.  However, now Google has returned with the Google Nexus S, which just may save the brand.

Google Nexus S reviews note how similar the design of the phone is to the Samsung Galaxy S.  It weighs slightly more, but still feels light in the hand.  The curved frame conforms well to the palm.  The screen itself is also curved.  However, the phone will feel very different to what an iPhone4 or HTC Desire HD user would be used to, as those phones use metallic chassis.

The headphone slot on the phone has been moved to the bottom, rather than the side or top.  Many Google Nexus S reviews have praised this feature, though certainly not all.  There are some that see this change as one that makes it difficult to get the phone in and out of the pocket.

The phone has a nice touch screen.  Icons can be touched and dragged and moved as desired.  The screen is large and clear.

One criticism levied against the phone in reviews is in regard to the lack of external microSD expansion.  The phone has 16GB of internal storage – a respectable figure – but many users wish it were also possible to move that stored data onto another platform, such as their home PCs.  Currently, this requires an external PC connection.

The HTC Incredible S vs. the HTC Desire S

HTC is a leader in the mobile phone market and offers a variety of phones to suit individual needs.  While reviews of the different HTC products are extremely helpful, sometimes it is advantageous to compare two phones side by side.  In many of the HTC mobile phone deals, networks offer both phones free with the obligatory signup.

Both the HTC Desire S and the HTC Incredible S run on the Android 2.2 operating system, with a GSM/HSDPA air interface.  Talk times are identical but the HTC Desire S has a superior standby time of up to 430 hours versus the HTC Incredible’s 290 hours.  However, the HTC Incredible handsets include a GPRS connectivity of 114 kbps while this feature is not available on the HTC Desire S.

The HTC Incredible S is a slightly larger phone, measuring 120.0 mm x 64.0 mm x 11.7 mm with a 4-inch touch screen against the HTC Desire S measurements of 115.0 mm x 59.8 mm x 11.6 mm and its 3.7-inch screen.

While there are similar features on both phones including Wi-Fi, DLNA, Bluetooth capabilities, USB ports, video camera, stereo FM radio, MP3 and WAV ringtones, the two phones vary greatly in their media players, cameras and GPS navigation.

The HTC Desire S has a 5-megapixel autofocus camera, while the HTC Incredible S is equipped with an 8-megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash.  The Desire S model is equipped with DivX/XviD/MP4/WMV player and MP3/AAC+/WAV/WMA player, while the Incredible S model has the MP3/AAC+/WAV/WMA player and MP4/H.263/H.264/WMV player.  Both phones are equipped with A-GPS support, but the HTC Incredible S model includes Google Maps.

LG Optimus 2X Smartphone Deals

Often the key to getting a good deal on a smartphone is balancing the cost of the phone itself with the cost of a service plan for the phone.  These contracts can get pricey.  Most smartphones run internet service, which incurs an extra charge.  It is important to figure out just how much you will use each feature of the phone.  If you can cut back in one or two areas then you can save a lot of money when purchasing a smartphone.

LG Optimus 2X deals
are in this vein.  Sometimes it is possible to get the phone entirely free or at a huge discount, but that depends heavily on the type of plan attached to the phone.  The balance will be between the number of minutes available for calls, the number of texts available and the amount of data available.  Data is crucial for internet usage, but can also prove to be the costliest aspect of having a smartphone.

A balanced plan will include about 300 minutes of talk time, unlimited texts and maybe 500MB of data for the internet.  This can cost as little as £20 a month.  Sometimes, this can even net you a free phone.

However, this amount of data is relatively low.  Those who plan to make heavier use of the internet will probably need more data.  Sometimes, it is possible to trade out text messages for data.

HTC Desire S Review

HTC has come out with a new addition to its HTD Sense line of mobile phones.  What is HTC Sense?  It is a user interface designed for Android, Brew and Windows Mobile phones.  The HTC Desire S is an upgrade to the basic HTC Sense interface.

HTC promises better browsing, a camcorder, and an all around improved experience with the HTC Desire S.  The new screen is 9.4cm, but the body of the phone itself is actually slimmer than previous designs.

HTC plans to make good on its promise of better browsing.  Text can be ‘pinched’ larger or smaller and will automatically re-flow to fit the screen.  Text can be highlighted and then researched on Google, Wikipedia, YouTube or in a digital dictionary.

The improved camera aims to allow users more freedom and mobility in capturing special moments on the fly.  The phone has a high-quality camera and HD video recorder built in.

Meanwhile, the basic HTC Sense interface will continue to provide users with a quality experience.  Users can install a weather and clock app that update automatically when the user travels.  Maps are also built in to aid users with travel.  They can be accessed instantly and without incurring roaming fees.  The maps even have their own compass integrated into the system to orientate users.

Overall, the improved camera and browsing functions of the HTC Desire S do indeed improve on former designs.  However, the HTC Sense interface is more or less the same as previous versions.

Samsung Omnia 7 – Is it any good?

Posted on 21st April 2011 by regulars in Mobile Phone Reviews,Mobile Phones,Samsung Mobile Phones

When looking to buy a new handset it is best to carry out some research before committing to a purchase.  Many mobile phone review websites contain honest criticism (good and bad) on the capabilities of most handsets.  Some articles will not only include a review from a technical perspective, but also user opinions too, allowing you to get a far clearer picture of exactly what you can expect from the phone prior to purchase.

A technical Samsung Omnia 7 review, for example, will give you plenty of information on the operating system and other features, such as memory capacity and battery life.  If however you read a Samsung Omnia 7 review that is written more from a user perspective, then expect to read more generalised information, such as how easy the menus are to navigate, whether the phone is prone to crashing and how responsive the touchscreen is.  Sometimes what is advertised is not actually what you get in reality.

The Samsung Omnia 7 has actually received mainly positive reviews.  Apart from a few problems with the Bluetooth function, most users have reported that this handset is as described in the technical reviews.  Most review sites give the Samsung Omnia 7 full marks for being a quality product that is both affordable and simple to use.  Some of its features include a five megapixel camera, FM radio and support for Xbox Live integration.
